From the name alone, Smallpeice House was always an anomaly - a curiosity, a quiet rarity, named after engineer and Philanthropist, Cosby Smallpeice. As a studio that mostly works with heritage buildings, we couldn’t resist the tired grandeur of this beautiful, semi-derelict Georgian house, leaping at the chance to create our first ever physical studio.

Falling under her spell, we explored every corner, inspired by the details and stories hidden in the walls, sometimes pretending to be lady of the manor! As we nested inside The Regency Room, we simultaneously grew in confidence, and in who we are as a studio.

New life returned as artists and curators moved in, bringing energy, conversation, and excitement. We hosted events, launching the studio’s presence in Leamington Spa from the secret garden with The Finch Project. We welcomed new faces and made friends including Cosby the resident fox.

We’ve loved every second here, watching Smallpeice House ebb and flow through the seasons, but this month marks the end of our time within her walls. A new chapter begins for both of us and we hope our paths cross again.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came through the doors, soaked it all in, and supported us along the way. It meant the world. And further thanks to Coventry Biennial for hosting us.

Now a new door has opened. Something very different. More room to grow. More to share - soon.
